The T4 bacteriophage is a very interesting virus. Its job is to attack the E. coli bacteria. Once it locates its intended victim, T4 uses the end of its tail tube to penetrate the outer membrane of the cell. It then begins to replicate DNA using its high-speed copying mechanism. It then forms new T4 virus particles and completes the process when the host cell bursts open ejecting the newly created viruses into the environment. Several Noble Prize winners have worked with T4 in scientific endeavors to aid humanity. Let's hope they keep up the good work!
